Hair loss affects both men and women. The more you know about this condition, the better your chances of preventing its occurrence.

What causes hair loss?

Hair loss or balding can be due to a lot of causes. It can be because of hormonal problems, physical and emotional stress, certain medications, scalp disorders, iron deficiency, aging, and genetics. The most common cause is due to male pattern baldness. This happens when testosterone is converted to DHT by the enzyme 5 alpha reductase. This results in minitiaruziation of the follicles and progressive thinning of the hair. Sometimes the follicle stops producing hair completely, leading to baldness.

Can stress influence hair growth?

Both physical and emotional stress can lead to temporary balding. This is called telogen effluvium wherein the follicles are forced to enter the resting phase. The a lot of strands then fall out a couple of months later. However, in about six to nine months, new growth.

Is it true that when a man grows his hair long it will cause baldness later on?

While brushing the hair helps distribute oil from the scalp to the ends of the hair, going overboard can do more harm than good. Brushing the hair 100 times can damage the outer layer of the hair strand or can harm the follicles.

Will washing hair under cold water cure baldness?

Running cold water over the head can improve circulation but will not cure baldness or hair loss.

Is it normal to lose some hair from the early 30s?

Yes, it is normal when you get older. Our locks becomes finer with age and the follicles on the scalp will progressively reduce.
