How to Get Rid of an Itchy Scalp

A persistently itchy scalp can really help damage your self esteem. You very well can't keep scratching your head in an important job interview, or scatter dead skin flakes all over a dinner party. So, what can you do to avoid getting into uncomfortable and embarrassing situations like these? Thankfully, there are lots of ways you can easily get rid of that nasty head itch.

The first step in solving any problem lies in identifying the source of that problem. In this case, you need to find out what is causing that itch on your head. Dandruff - This all comes down to proper hygiene and hair care. The right shampoo can keep dandruff at bay. If your old shampoo didn't work, try switching to a different kind. Also remember that sweat helps the growth of dandruff, so make sure shower after every workout.

Allergic Contact Dermatitis - Simply avoiding the allergen can get rid of the problem completely, so as long as you know what's triggering the allergic reaction, you can just avoid using products that have it.

Folliculitis - A shampoo with salicylic acid will help alleviate the itchiness. Antibacterial cleansing products with tea tree oil can also help remove excess oil and bacteria.

Psoriasis - There are treatments that can greatly help relieve the itchiness caused by psoriasis. Turmeric, neem oil, lavender, and eucalyptus oil have all been known to be effective cures for psoriasis.

Head Lice - Home remedies that contain oil, like olive oil and even mayonnaise can get rid of adult head lice while lemon juice can eliminate lice eggs.

As with all skin problems, it is important not to ignore any persistent head itch as it may well be a case of a skin infection that may develop into a painful and extended scalp problem.
